Cultural Reformation

KatleenCookeby Kathleen Cooke

Kathleen runs our SPARC Screen Media Scholarship, and is a founding partner and Vice President at Cooke Pictures in Burbank, California and co-founder of The Influence Lab.

Working in the Hollywood media and entertainment industry is challenging for Christians. We’re often thrown into a “one category” – Christian pile. We’re one of them. Over the past 25 years, our company, Cooke Pictures has had the opportunity to work on some great documentaries and media projects that required research on great men of faith who lived through challenging cultures and difficult times. William Wilberforce, William Tyndale, and Martin Luther, to name a few. Currently, we’re working with the Museum Of The Bible scheduled to open in November 2017. This is the year, 500 years ago, 1517, that Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis statements to the doors of the church and is noted to have started what is now known as “The Reformation.”

Pray for persecuted Christians to remain hopeful, diligent and safe this Easter

A state of emergency has been declared in Egypt following two church bombings on Sunday 9 April, which killed at least 44 people and injured over 100 people. [ Images: Mohamed Abd El Ghany/Reuters ]“The latest bombings and killings of Christians in Egypt have highlighted again the need for solidarity, aid, and prayers for persecuted Christians around the world.

This has been called the single deadliest day of violence against Egyptian Christians in decades. It comes as attacks against Christians have increased in recent months. Earlier this year, Islamic State announced they would be targeting Egyptian Christians.

Open Doors contact in Egypt said, “One of the most joyful days for Christians in Egypt is Palm Sunday… The joyful day turned into a painful tragedy.”

He heard about the first attack as he was leaving to go to his own church service with his family. Shortly after his service finished he heard about the second attack, “…doubling our pain and deepening our shock.”

Ahead of its Bicentenary on 7th March 2017, Bible Society remains the oldest continually operating organisation in our nation’s history. The only change is the name. In 2010, the Bible Societies in each state merged into a single organisation, Bible Society Australia.

It was like I’d flow into hell.” After several years of service in one of the hardest mission fields on earth, Nik and Ruth travelled the world to meet others who had suffered for their faith and are now coming to Australia to share what they have learned.
