David BennettDavid Bennett grew up in Sydney and felt at a young age that he was attracted exclusively to men. At age 14 he shared with his family and friends that he was gay.

Growing up, David had a very negative view of Christianity, feeling a great sense of injustice of what Christians had done to the Gay Community. At University he would rip down the Christian posters and put up Queer posters instead.

Encouraging All Australians Who Affiliate With Christianity To Write ‘Christian’

I'm writing Christian in Question 19 of the CensusChristians of all denominations are being encouraged to fill in the ‘Religion’ box, or the ‘Other’ box when answering question 19 of the Census on Tuesday night August 9. CMAA has prepared a website to encourage Christians and people of all faiths to make sure their faith is counted.

This year the ‘No Religion’ box will be the first choice. Christian Media & Arts have worked in coalition with some of our members to build an information website and Facebook page that encourages believers and listeners to our community stations to answer truthfully and give a true reflection of faith in Australia.

Miracles Day changing livesOn Thursday 25 August, 26 CMAA radio stations throughout Australia will partner with CBM Australia to help change the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. Thanks to our radio partners, last year, Miracles Day raised over 25,000 ‘Miracle’ gifts of sight. It was an outcome that far surpassed our expectations! We’re so thankful to all our partners.

Melbourne and Sydney Stations Named Finalists in Community Radio Awards

Christian Radio Finalists in 2016 CBAA AwardsCongratulations to member stations 89.9 LightFM in Melbourne, and Hope 103.2 in Sydney for being named finalists in this year’s CBAA Awards. LightFM are up for two awards – Best Station Production for Belgrave Heights Christian School, and Best Station Promotion or Fundraising Campaign for their ‘Your News’ Partner Day. This raised funds that have allowed LightFM to broadcast their own ‘family friendly’ news format in partnership with Vision Radio. LightFM’s CEO Jarred Graetz was delighted with the announcement and said, “this is a great accolade and encouragement for our whole team, and it would be good to see more Christian stations entering these awards in the future.

Hope 103.2 are once again a finalist in the Excellence in Digital Media category for their Online Advent Calendar created for the 25 days of Christmas 2015.

Filming of the a new Christian feature film ‘Trust’ will begin June 13 in Sydney’s northern beaches and inner city area.

Written and Directed by Angus Benfield and Produced by Lyle Carey, ‘Trust’ is inspired by the Biblical story of Job centred around a typical everyday Australian family.

Community radio suffered badly in the budget.

The Federal Budget will see a decrease in funding support for the sector of $1.4 million p.a. – funding that keeps community radio stations broadcasting on digital in 5 capital cities.

Community radio’s standing alongside public and commercial broadcasters is at risk.

The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia has launched a campaign to Keep the Community in Your Radio, seeking signatures on a petition calling on both the Coalition and Labor to restore funding to keep community radio on digital.
