Written by Kim Wilkinson on . Posted in News & Updates, Sponsored Updates

Christian media outlets across Australia and for the first time in New Zealand, are preparing their audiences for this year’s Shoebox Sunday and the addition of a competition!

Stations and Shoebox Sunday DiscoverShoebox Sunday on October 30th is an initiative of Samaritan’s Purse Australia for their project Operation Christmas Child (OCC). The project involves an annual collection of gift- filled shoeboxes for children in developing nations.

Every year, over 10 million gift-filled shoeboxes are hand-delivered worldwide to children in desperate need. And this year in partnership with Christian Media we are running a competition, where the prize is an opportunity for 2 people travelling to Cambodia and witness the joy experienced by the children receiving their shoeboxes.

The completion requires eligible entrants to tell us in 25 words or less, “why you pack a shoebox?”.

You can be part of changing the lives of children living in poverty through education this June.

According to the United Nations, 200 million young people in developing countries do not have the skills they need for employment and prosperity. The reasons are varied and many: overcrowded classrooms, impractical curriculums, a lack of school resources, poor attendance. But the impact is huge: one in eight young people are unemployed; over a quarter are trapped in jobs that keep them on or below the poverty line.

Education is a powerful way to reduce poverty. But when a family’s focus is on simply surviving, education can’t be a priority. Compassion Australia’s Education Appeal 2015 will help to provide a solution.
