Kathleen runs our SPARC Screen Media Scholarship, and is a founding partner and Vice President at Cooke Pictures in Burbank, California and co-founder of The Influence Lab.

Working in the Hollywood media and entertainment industry is challenging for Christians. We’re often thrown into a “one category” – Christian pile. We’re one of them. Over the past 25 years, our company, Cooke Pictures has had the opportunity to work on some great documentaries and media projects that required research on great men of faith who lived through challenging cultures and difficult times. William Wilberforce, William Tyndale, and Martin Luther, to name a few. Currently, we’re working with the Museum Of The Bible scheduled to open in November 2017. This is the year, 500 years ago, 1517, that Martin Luther nailed his 95 thesis statements to the doors of the church and is noted to have started what is now known as “The Reformation.”

Video On Demand in Australia

Written by Gutenberg on . Posted in News & Updates

VOD logos 2_ 300x150Australians are increasingly turning to video-on-demand (VOD) for their viewing rather than traditional broadcast TV. What does that mean for creators of TV and film content? How has the recent arrival of Netflix affected video audiences?

Phil Cooke describes subscription-based video on demand (SVOD) users as “the new media pioneers“.

“It’s not really an argument for cable versus broadcast anymore, it’s really an argument about subscribers of digital content services versus everyone else. They’re the leading media users and the ones who will (for the time being) define the future.”

Here’s a round-up of some other recent articles on the topic we found interesting, plus some nifty visual guides from Screen Australia:

Who’s Creating The Movies and TV Programs That Will Inspire The Next Generation?

Written by Gutenberg on . Posted in News & Updates

phil cooke 2012_180x120An excerpt from a recent post by Phil Cooke:

… with a current television schedule filled with vampires, corrupt cops, hypocritical politicians, fathers who act like buffoons, soft-core porn, growing levels of violence, and more – who’s producing programs that will do for this generation of kids the same thing that The Lone Ranger and Adam 12 did for the last? Sure those old shows may be corny by our standards today, but that doesn’t mean the same vision, ideals, and principles couldn’t be celebrated with contemporary storytelling.
